Spotify Doubles Its Paid Subscribers In A Year, Now At 20 Million
Spotify says it now caters to 20 million paid subscribers and more than 75 million active users. The streaming music service garnered its first 10 million paid users over the course of five and a half years, and the next 10 million in the last year alone. The company claims to have paid over $3 billion in royalties to music publishers and labels in its lifetime. It also closed a $526 million funding round yesterday, bringing its valuation to $8.4 billion.
